Funding

Mahidol University provides several academic mobility programs granting financial supports and scholarships for foriegn inbound students.

Thai Education Visa Information

Non-Immigrant Visa "ED" (Education) is the type of visa issued to applicants who wish to study, attend seminars, undergo training, or an internship in Thailand.

All individuals who wish to apply for elective, clerkship, or rotation with Ramathibodi must apply for an ED visa through valid institutions such as the Thai Embassy or Thai Consulate-General to issue legal travel and stay permissions.

The Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital is not responsible for any lapses in process in visa approval, and is by no means any representative or liaison of the Thai Office of the Immigration Bureau and its agents or partners. The information on this page serves as a point of general information for those who are considering to apply for clerkship at Ramathibodi.

The validity of the ED visa is 90 days.


Period of Stay

The holder of this type of visa is entitled to stay in Thailand for a maximum period of 90 days. He or she may apply for an extension of stay at the Office of the Immigration Bureau and may be granted such extension for a period of one year from the date of first entry into Thailand.


Applying for a Visa from Abroad

Documents Required for ED Visa Application

All visa applicants must have ALL documents ready for the Thai ED visa application:

 

  1. Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months
  2. Complete Visa Application Form
  3. Recent (4 x 6 cm.) photograph of the applicant
  4. Recommendation letter addressed to the Consulate
  5. Letter of acceptance from the concerned academic institute/organisation
  6. Academic record and Student ID (if currently studying)
  7. For those wishing to attend seminar, or training session, or internship, a formal letter confirming participation status of the applicant from the concerned organisation addressed to the Consulate is also required

 

Consular officers reserve the rights to request additional documents as deemed necessary.

Procedures for Lost Passport

A foreigner whose passport is either lost or stolen after entering the Kingdom must do the following:

  1. File a report at the local police station in the area where the passport was lost or stolen.
  2. Bring the police report to your embassy or consulate and apply for a new passport or substitute document. If there is no embassy or consulate in Thailand, please contact the Passport Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  3. Bring your new passport or substitute document to the Immigration Bureau to have your visa re-stamped at

Reporting of Foreign Residence

The Immigration Bureau must be informed when a foreigner resides with or rents the property of a Thai citizen.

The owner of the house must inform the Immigration Office. In the case that an immigration office is not in the area, inform the local police station.

Reporting Procedures

 

  1. Authorities must be informed within 24 hours of resident occupancy.
  2. The above procedures may be done by mail.
  3. All foreigners who will stay in Thailand longer than 90 days must complete the following requirements:
    • Report to the Immigration Bureau in person to register your address. If you have stayed longer than 90 days without registering. you will need to report and pay a fine according to circumstance. If you have not stayed longer than 90 days, you may designate an appointee to register for you. Required materials are your passport and the TM. 47 Application Form.
    • Report your address every 90 days thereafter to the Immigration Bureau which can be done by an appointee.
    • If you have stayed in Thailand over 90 days without registering you should report to the Immigration Bureau to register. The fine as of 2014 for voluntarily reporting residence as a Foreigner after the 90 days limit is 2,000 baht.

 

On-Campus Accomodation

The Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital provides lodging for its medical and nursing students and residents in an on-campus dormitory. International medical or nursing students and residents may also reserve a room in the dormitory for the duration of their study at the university. There are two types of room available in the faculty dormitory as follows:

 

Air-conditioned room Regular room with fans

4 rooms total: 2 rooms with two single beds 2 rooms with four single beds
Amenities: small refrigerator, microwave, closets, desks, hangers, built-in bathroom with hot and cold water.
THB 5,000 per month THB 1,500 per week THB 300 per day

4 rooms total: Each room has four single beds and fans
Amenities: two lockers, desks, refrigerator, microwave, shared bathroom with the neighboring room.
THB 750 per week THB 150 per day

Note:

  • Occupants of opposite sexes are not allowed stay together or enter in each other's room as per dormitory rules.
  • Laundry service is available at request with rates at THB 150 per week, or THB 600 per month. Not over 4 pieces per laundry. Self-service laundry (with washing machine) is also available.

 


 

Outline of Check-in process

  1. A room of your reservation will be prepared and ready upon your arrival to Thailand. You will receive a room key from a housekeeper on duty at the front reception after signing your name in our check-in registration book.
  2. Check-in time is normally 02.00 pm or earlier, subject to room availability and student's arrival flight. Three-day early (before starting date of elective internship) check-in without charge is possible.
  3. The accommodation fee according to period of stay is shared price with your roommate (if any) and must be paid by cash together with tuition fee on the first day of elective.

 

 

Check-out Rules and Regulations

  • Check-out should be initiated by the student or resident within 04.30 p.m on the last day of elective rotation, which should fall on a weekday (Monday to Friday).
  • Every student or resident is NOT allowed to check out from the room on weekends as there are no officers on duty to facilitate the check-out process and inspect for any any damage, removal, or loss to the room.
  • As we are aware of any inconvenience that may occur in the case of a night departure flight, or an extended stay in Bangkok during the weekend, we can help sort out this problem by finding and reserving affordable off-campus accommodation nearby the Faculty as needed on a case-by-case basis.

 

Campus Life

 

Dress Code

 

The Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, in addition to all Thai universities, has a mandatory dress code all students must follow. Students and those who are in clerical rotations must abide by uniform rules as to designate professional training status.

Correct dress code includes white or light color formal shirt, with dark trousers or skirt as appropriate. Closed-toe shoes must be worn at all times.

  • Bottoms: Black or dark color trousers
  • Footwear: Closed-toe shoes

 

 

  • Shirt: White or light color shirt or blouse
  • Bottoms: Black or dark color skirt

All students can bring and use their own white coat and stethoscope.


 

Inappropriate Dress Code

Inappropriate or incorrect dress code for all who are participating in clerical rotations include sleeveless shirts, shorts, and flip-flops/sandals. Students are not advised to wear such articles of clothing during campus activity and practicum. Inappropriate or incorrect dress code includes sleeveless shirts, shorts, and flip-flops/sandals.

Library

The library, managed by the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital Section of Learning Resource Administration, aims to expand its ongoing service in providing information electronically to all members of the Faculty. With a collection of newspapers, over 700,000 books (Thai and English), journals over 400 titles (Thai and English), in addition to 500 video discs, and access to over 40 online databases, our library offers a great depth for opportunities in research in health sciences. In addition, we have a web-based database in health sciences comprised of e-journals and e-books. E-theses are also available to facilitate further education research and development of health services.

In an effort to reduce the amount of paper that we consume, our library provides a book delivery service to accompany our Interlibrary Loan Request system.

Sports Center

The sport center is located at 2nd floor, Research Building. Our sports center has facilities for badminton, table tennis, tennis, basketball, volleyball, petanque, and sepak takraw.

In addition, there is a Fitness Center with weight training equipment. Aerobics and yoga classes are scheduled regularly. The center is staffed with physical education experts who are available for advising.
