Shinshu University School of Medicine (SUSM) and the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University (RAMA) celebrated the successful launch of a virtual exchange program on October 28, 2020. Approximately 20 medical students from the 1st to 5th years participated in this collaborative session and more than 20 faculty and staff members from both universities happily watched their students' presentations and discussions.



This first session started with presentations by the students introducing the two universities. Participants from both countries then gave excellent talks on the topic of "The Learning Experience During the Covid-19 Outbreak". All participants listened attentively to the presentations and both sides learned and became more curious about their partner country, its education system and culture, in addition to exchanging information and asking questions about the measures taken against the COVID-19 pandemic in their respective countries.



Both student groups ended the session promising to continue their collaboration, and SUSM and RAMA will continue to support this initiative.

During November 3-4, 2020, via the online platform, Webinar, Prof.Piyamitr Sritara, M.D., Dean, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, Thailand, along with Prof.Ken Nakata, M.D., Director of Center of Global Health, Osaka University. Japan, provided the opening remarks and keynote speeches for the 5th Joint Conference Ramathibodi-Osaka University 2020, under the main theme “Global Collaboration to fight COVID-19”. On the first day of the conference, Dr.Wiwat Rojanapithayakorn, M.D., Executive Director of ASEAN University Network – Health Promotion Network, kindly provided the keynote speech on “How can a county control effectively prevent the spread of Coronavirus-2019: a Case Study from Thailand”. While on the 2nd day, Dr.Pattanasak Monkolwat, Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, Mahidol University, kindly gave a presentation on "Disruptive pandemic: Is it a new normal?".
 
The conference comprised not only the honorable speakers from Japan and Thailand but also from Indonesia, South Korea, and France, aiming to provide the updates of each countries’ efforts on COVID-19 as well as to share their experience towards the situation of the pandemic.
 
The COVID-19 outbreak might disrupt everyday life for billions around the globe, however, at the same time, this crisis proves that strong international collaboration and partnership are the important keys to success in order to overcome this crisis and recover together.

Prof. Piyamit Sritara, Dean, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, presided over the signing ceremony of the MOU between Mahidol University, collaborates with Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (TCELS), and Greater Co., Ltd. On this special occasion, Dr.Sirasak Teparkum, Deputy CEO, TCELS; .Assoc.Prof.Rutaiwan Tohtong, Ph.D., Deputy Dean for Research and International Relations, representative of the Faculty of Science Mahidol University, and Mr. Chernporn Tengamnuay, Managing Director of Greater Co., Ltd. attended the event as the representatives of each organization.  

 
 
 
 
 
 

August 21, 2020, at the meeting room no.1, Office of the Dean, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, Prof. Piyamitr Sritara, M.D., the Dean; along with Asst.Prof. Warawut Sukkasem, M.D. from Department of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Radiology; as the representatives of the Faculty, provided the special interview with the TV Show for talk-and-interview, Insight China By Liurong, which airs every Saturday Morning on TNN 16. The show brings the latest China news headlines, breaking news, and updates. This time, the Dean and Asst.Prof. Warawut Sukkasem, M.D. delivered some words regarding the collaboration in medical equipment between China and Thailand, through the medical equipment from the United Imaging Healthcare.

 

On 25 June 2020, Associate Thanya Subhadrabandhu, M.D., Acting Vice President of Mahidol University alongside Professor Piyamitr Sritara, M.D., Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital Mahidol University received CT Scan equipment from Mr. Chaowalit Ekabut, Executive Director, SCG Foundation, at the Ramadhibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital, at the Chakri Naruebodindra Medical Institute campus, of the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University.

Professor Piyamitr Sritara, M.D., Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital gave a warm welcome to the distinguished guests present at the handover ceremony, and delivered a speech regarding the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic. Prof. Sritara, M.D., emphasized the importance of diagnosis of patients suspected of being infected, alongside the increase of caution in screening patients suspected to have the condition. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the diagnosis of COVID-19 infections must be maintained. Such efforts can be achieved by this collaborative effort between the SCG Foundation, United Imaging Company, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China, and the Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, launching a project studying the efficacy of the use of computer X-Ray machines in patients speculated to have COVID-19. The potential of medical devices to be used efficiently and for the greatest merit to wider society.

Following, Mr. Chaowalit Ekabut, Executive Director, SCG Foundation, spoke of the first phase of the outbreak of COVID-19, when one-hundred cases were reported within the Kingdom of Thailand. At the time, the demand of protective equipment (PPE) was not enough, causing medical personnel to be at risk of infection, and be unknowingly infected. Therefore, the SCG foundation has collaborated with the SCG company to create innovative ways to approach safety for medical personnel working with COVID-19, such as: screening rooms; testing rooms; isolation chambers, which prevents mobile negative pressure infection; and a small-scale negative pressure patient capsule for CT scan, which is a technology that that can be produced and installed in a short span of time. Simultaneously, the SCG Foundation has funded more than 50 million baht to sponsor over 15 hospitals in medical innovations across the Kingdom, including Ramathibodi Hospital and the Chakri Narubodindra Medical Institute.

The uCT530, the CT Scan medical imaging equipment received, is one of many innovations for screening patients and tracking symptoms, with the Chinese Academy of Sciences graciously offering suggestions towards the use of this equipment. The uCT530 can display clear, high resolution images, while generating such data using low radiation levels in just 2 minutes. In addition, this machine supports high volumes of use: up to 300 people per day can undergo screening, benefitting various practices of healthcare for the future.

 

 

 

 

On May 18, 2020, at the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute, Assoc. Prof. Surasak Leelaudomlipi, M.D., Director of Ramathibodi Hospital, along with Asst.Prof. Suchin Worawichawong, M.D., Assistant Dean for International Relations, on the behalf of the Faculty, recieved a BenQ T3300 Tablet Ultrasound System in a donation ceremony for the Hospital. The equipment was kindly donated by the Thai-Taiwan COVID-19 Response Committee, in order to combat the pandemic. Deputy Permanent Secretary for Public Health, Dr. Pisit Sriprasert, M.D., graciously opened the ceremony in this generous occasion.

May 12, 2020 at the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, Dr. Siam Khajarern, M.D., Deputy Director of Ramathibodi Hospital, along with Dr. Pongtong Puranitee, M.D from Department of Pediatrics and Ms.Katesarin Suwanwiriya, Head of International Relations Section, welcomed the representatives from the Zonta Club of Bangkok VIII in a donations ceremony giving medical equipments and necessary stuff to the Faculty, in order to combat the pandemic.

Representing from the Zonta Club of Bangkok VIII were Ms. Chintana Chansungsan, President and Chawewan Puranitee,Ph.d, in this generous occasion. The kind donation is consisting of the 30 sets of Personal protective equipment (PPE), 500 pieces of disposable medical masks, 30 bottles of alcohol sanitizer gel. They also kindly donated 1,000 packs of pasteurized milk from the Zonta Dairy Village. The donation is made in hope to support the medical personnel fighting with the COVID-19 pandemic.

On May 7, 2020, at Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, Professor Sirintara Singhara Na Ayudhaya, M.D, the Deputy Dean for International Relations, as the Faculty’s representatives, graciously received a substantial donation of the medical equipment and cashier cheque worth THB 500,000 to the Faculty which will go directly to frontline healthcare workers in order to help fight the pandemic COVID-19.

The donation is kindly made by Mr. Phornsake - Dr. Lalivan Karnchanachari and their family consisting of the 400 sets of Personal protective equipment (PPE)-with a value of THB 200,000, and the THB 300,000 donation cheque; the total amount of donation is THB 500,000. They also kindly donated 1,000 packs of pasteurized milk from the Zonta Dairy Village. The donation is made in hope to support the medical personnel fighting with the COVID-19 pandemic.

On May 1, 2020, at Office of the Dean, Professor Piyamitr Sritara, M.D., Dean of Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, along with his Deputy Dean, Clinical Professor Pornchai Mulpruek, M.D; Professor Sirintara Singhara Na Ayudhaya, M.D, the Deputy Dean for International Relations, and Assistant Professor Prasit Keesukphan, M.D., the Deputy Dean for Physical Environment and Facilities, all as the Faculty’s representatives, graciously received the medical equipments kindly donated by the THAICOM Foundation to support their COVID-19 relief efforts. Such medical equipments include: 5 of Cardiac Monitoring Systems, 1,000 sets of Personal protective equipment (PPE) and 6,000 pieces of N95 masks.

The donation is made in hope to support the medical pesonnel fighting with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Representing the Thai-Taiwan COVID-19 Response Committee, were, Dr. Chen-Yuan Tung, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand; Mr. Shu-Tien Liu, Permanent Honorary President and Ms. Hsio-Min Kuo, President, both from the Thai-Taiwan Business Association; Ms. Penni Praisankul, President of the Tawian Association of Thailand; and Ms. Sophia Ching-Ping Yang, Vice President, Thai-Tawian Business Association, CEO Emerald Nonwovens International Co., Ltd, in this generous occasion.
