NUS' Healthy Longevity webinar titled "Healthy as a Hunter-Gatherer: Diet, Activity, and Energy in Humans"

How many calories do you burn each day: Does exercise help to lose weight? What is the natural human diet?

Metabolism is a fundamental biological activity and governs energy intake and expenditure. Metabolism changes with age and may be related to changes in physical activity patterns and dietary behaviors. To understand the relevance of human metabolism to the aging process, we need to study how we live and more importantly, how we use and consume cellular energy on a daily basis.

In this webinar, Associate Professor Herman Pontzer will share more about how our evolutionary past shapes our lives and health today. His team is the first in the world to carry out measurements of daily energy expenditure in traditional hunter-gatherers and non-human apes. These findings challenge the way we think about diet, exercise metabolism, and health.

Join our host Professor Brian Kennedy and Associate Professor Herman Pontzer as they discuss the science of metabolism and how human populations have evolved in their use of energy. Clues from the daily lifestyles of traditional hunter-gatherers may reveal new insights into how chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes or coronary heart diseases. can be managed with lifestyle modifications.

Let's join the discussion together in the Healthy Longevity webinar titled "Healthy as a Hunter-Gatherer: Diet, Activity, and Energy in Humans" on Thursday, 17 June 2021 at 7pm SGT (GMT+8).
